BALM OF GILEAD CITY(BGC)

THE CITY OF PRAYER

Balm of Gilead City (BGC) is a place of restoration and refreshing for the people of God. It is a large piece of land of over 700 acres located at the Egun / Ogua community, off the bypass, in Benin City, Edo State. The members of the Church of God Mission International(CGMI) Missions team have visited the community and its surrounding communities sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and ministering to the people. The Egun community has also been blessed with a transformer through CGMI to facilitate power to the community as well as several outreach initiatives. We are proud to say that we will have established several CGMI branches in the area by the end of 2013. Special initiatives are currently being established for the community residents for admission to Word of Faith Group of Schools, All Nations for Christ Bible Institute and Benson Idahosa University.

HISTORY

The Balm of Gilead City (BGC) project was commissioned in November 2010 under the unction of our Archbishop, His grace, Most. Rev. Margaret Benson-Idahosa. The meeting hall and other structures were erected for the convention of the following year. The work on the city has continued since then, thanks to the generous contributions of the members and non members of the Church of God Mission International family. We expect that BGC will be a livable project with full time residents by the year 2015.

COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVES (CTI)

This initiative is a partnership between CGMI and the community to better it. It shall include our initiatives to assist the community in becoming self sufficient with water projects, health, power, education, the gospel and other forms of assistance to the community. These initiatives will work with the community to create lasting social and spiritual change as we believe that it will result in the building of people into leadership with a global passion deeply rooted in Christ.

THREE FEATURED INITIATIVES:

CTI - POWER TO THE POWER

So far this has included the donation of a power transformer in 2010 to the community to facilitate the use of power resources. It was a welcome addition and just one of the many initiatives which we will part of in partnership with the community.

CTI - OPERATION TOUCH

TThis includes our evangelism and outreach projects within the community. It will include first and foremost the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ, followed by the donation of clothing, books, food items etc as part of our missions team work.

CTI - YEARN TO LEARN

This initiative is geared towards providing education and leadership opportunities in the community. This includes primary, secondary and university education with a Christian focus. Our steps are aimed at assisting the community to access the best of the best in education as well as learn the tools and skills necessary to succeed in school and the world, all in a Christ centered approach. These are empowered by our work with Word of Faith Groups of Schools, the All Nations for Christ Bible Institute, the Special Vocation Bible School and the Benson Idahosa University to give scholarships and other assistance to the indigenes of the community.
